Glenlossie DGP Glenlossie Case Study

Diageo Global Supply intended replacing the Control System at Glenlossie Dark Grains Plant.

Au Automation designed and installed a process control system for the automation of the Dryer, Evaporator, Pressed Draff system, Pelletisation, Tank Farm, Cooling Towers and ancillary plant (MVR Start-up, CIP, Scrubber) processes.  We were also asked to complete re-tag all field instrumentation and cabling and reverse the switching polarity for all existing  discrete inputs to the control system.

The proposed system would completely replace the existing Yokogawa mXL control system.

This included the following services and items of equipment for each section of work: –

  • SCADA/PLC control system – Design, supply, installation, configuration and testing.
  • Site work – Cable/core re-tagging, Signal polarity reversal, network cabling, testing and commissioning.
  • Documentation and Training - For both operations and engineering staff.

The system arrangement consisted of a number of parts, including: –

  • SCADA system.
  • PLC System.

SCADA SYSTEM

The SCADA system comprises four operator stations. Each station consisted of a Medium Tower Dell Optiplex PC with Windows XP (SP2) operating system running Wonderware InTouch 60,000 Tag, v9.0 SCADA software. One of the four stations act as the operator/engineering station and hold the InTouch Development and Unity Pro licences. A second station acts as an Operator station and held an InTouch IO server Licence; this station was configured to disk mirror and hot stand-by with the Engineering/Operator station. The other two stations operated as independent operator stations

PLC SYSTEM

The PLC system comprises two Group Schneider Quantum PLC's arranged as a hot Stand-by pair. Two Quantum Ethernet modules provide the communication links between the SCADA system and the PLC's. And. Two Quantum IO Processor modules provide the communication links between the PLC Processors and five remote IO drops. Accommodating over one thousand IO points

The system offers completely redundant PLC processors, PLC/SCADA and PLC IO communications.
